GLT20 franchise owner buys CPL team

City Sports, who owned the Bloem City Blazers before South Africa’s Global T20 League was cancelled, has bought the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots franchise in the Caribbean Premier League.

City Sports also own City Kaitak in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz.

‘The company is headed by Sushil Kumar and Naren Kunder, who are based in Hong Kong. Kumar has investments in event management, information technology, food and beverage and sports management. Kunder has business interests in the garments industry, stationary and electronics,’ read a statement from the CPL.

The Patriots occupied fourth position in the 2018’s tournament’s six-team standings, after five wins in 10 attempts.

Kumar added: ‘With a total economic impact for the CPL 2018 being in excess of $127-million, we are looking to bring a greater economic impact to St Kitts and Nevis in 2019 and beyond.

‘We are also hoping our investment into the St Kitts and Nevis franchise is a catalyst to further investment into the country and growth of its economy.’

South Africans Rassie van der Dussen and Tabraiz Shamsi represented the Patriots last year.

‘We feel we have taken the Patriots as far as we can, and it is time for us to hand it over to more experienced hands. We are delighted to have found new owners such as City Sports who have a history of investing in cricket and want to take the franchise forward,’ concluded former owner Dr Uday Nayak.
